Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro Review – How tough is the camera?
After all this time Xiaomi only brought their Redmi series phones in India, they finally released the top-class mobile Mi Note 10 Pro in India some time ago.
This one phone has the main advantages on the camera side. There are 5 cameras on the back of the phone where the main camera has a 108MP resolution.
With various types of cameras provided along with its features, is the Mi Note 10 Pro the best camera phone with a price of under 7 million?
In addition to the 5 rear cameras, the Mi Note 10 Pro appears normal without something different. The cellphone uses glass material both for the front and the back of the cellphone with aluminum for the chassis.
The cellphone feels quite thick and heavy on the hand with a thickness of 9.67mm and weighs 208g. Luckily when I use it everyday, the cellphone is still comfortable for me to hold with one hand for a long time. The fairly curved corner of the cellphone helps make the cellphone more comfortable to hold.
At the front, there is a selfie camera with a dewdrop model that slightly divides the upper screen. On the side there are volume buttons, power buttons, speakers, microphone, SIM card slot, USB-C, headphone jack, and pull it IR Blaster.
On the back of the cellphone besides there are 5 cameras, there are 4 flash lights on the side of the camera where 2 of them are flash lights and the other 2 are soft lights. The Xiaomi logo itself is placed at the bottom of the cellphone.
The screen on the Mi Note 10 Pro appears curved and can even be said to be very curved. For those of you who like this curved screen will be a plus, but for others who prefer a flatter screen will feel less comfortable.
The screen size is quite large at 6.47 ″ with a resolution of 2340 × 1080 pixels and supports HDR 10. For more comfortable eyes when viewing the screen in the dark, the screen is already certified by TÜV Rheinland. And, to protect the screen used Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The display screen is bright enough when used in the hot sun during the day.
Interestingly, on the inside of the Mi Note 10 Pro screen there is an optical fingerprint scanner. During use, the fingerprint scanner is quite fast in detecting my fingerprints. However, from the beginning he was warned by his cellphone not to use a screen protector if he wanted his fingerprint scanner to work perfectly
During use for my daily activities, Mi Note 10 Pro is quite smoothly performing. But the story is different when I use his cellphone to take pictures. Many times I found the default camera application unresponsive after I took a photo. The camera application looks normal but I can’t press the photo button for some time.
The unresponsiveness of the camera application on the Mi Note 10 Pro may be because the performance of the camera and the chipset used is not comparable so photo processing becomes slow. This is very pronounced when changing camera modes or taking photos many times in fast time so that several times I miss the right moment.
There is a possibility that this can be fixed by Xiaomi through the camera application or mobile phone firmware update. For now if you want to use the default camera application, especially using the 108MP mode, you have to be patient every time you take a camera.
When used in playing the latest games, the Mi Note 10 Pro is actually quite smooth but if you want to play various games smoothly with high graphics settings, this phone is not the answer.
On Mi Not 10 Pro only a mono speaker is available. If only used to play music, the speaker sound quality is ok. However, if used to play the game, the speaker is often accidentally covered by a hand so that the voice becomes buried.
Chipset: Qualcomm SDM730 Snapdragon 730G (8 nm)
Operating system: Android 9.0 / MIUI 11
Screen: 6.47 ″ 3D Curved AMOLED with screen resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels
Camera: 108MP main camera, 12MP portrait camera, 20 MP ultra wide-angle camera, 5MP telephoto camera, 2MP macro camera
Front camera: 32MP
Internal Storage: 256GB
Battery: 5,260mAh with 30W charging
Sensor: light sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, laser-focus sensor, NFC
There is no microSD slot provided on the Mi Note 10 Pro. But seeing that the internal storage capacity provided is very large for today, which is 256GB, this should be enough for most people. If you plan to use this phone to store large files, it might be difficult later.
The battery on the Mi Note 10 Pro is quite durable, I can get a screen on time of about 6 hours with my daily use of standard from 100% to 14% battery power. Using the PC Mark application with a screen brightness level of 50% and a battery level of 100%, the Mi Note 10 Pro gets a score of 14 hours 1 minute until the test ends at the battery level of 18%.
To charge the battery takes 1 hour 31 minutes from the battery level 13% to 100%. This is fast enough to see a large enough battery capacity of 5,260mAh.
Like other Xiaomi phones, Mi Note 10 Pro uses MIUI interface made by Xiaomi. When this phone was reviewed, the latest MIUI used on the cellphone was MIUI version 220.127.116.11 and was still based on the Android 9 Pie operating system. At a time when more and more phones are using Android 10, it’s a bit disappointing that the Mi Note 10 Pro is still using Android 9.
The MIUI interface used on the Mi Note 10 Pro might be loved by some people, but I personally am one of those who don’t like the Xiaomi style in compiling their mobile interface especially in the absence of App Drawer. Plus many ads are scattered on the default application Mi Note 10 Pro.
Fortunately on Android the case of changing the interface on the cell phone is easy by simply using an interface made by a third party, although not necessarily changing the entire appearance of the mobile interface.
From the camera side, the Mi Note 10 Pro is arguably the cellphone that uses the world’s first 108MP camera. Coupled with 4 other rear cameras that have different functions and 4 flash lights, this phone seems to show that it is a capable cameraphone.
The 108MP camera on the Mi Note 10 Pro is capable of producing photos well in various situations. However, by default the camera application will produce a 27MP resolution image which is the result of the merging of several pixels. If you want to produce 108MP pure photos, there is a mode that can be easily activated in the camera application.
The 108MP mode in the Mi Note 10 Pro camera application can produce 108MP resolution images that are pure but with the weakness of the file size becoming larger. Indeed there is a difference between the 108MP mode with 27MP mode like the sharpness of the photo but it is not significant so in my opinion for the majority of cellphone users the Auto mode is enough.
The wide-angle camera has a resolution of 20MP with 117 ° angle coverage. Although the quality cannot be compared to the main camera of the cellphone, the images produced by the wide-angle camera are good enough.
There are 2 telephoto cameras on the Mi Note 10 Pro, one camera with up to 2x optical zoom which also functions as a portrait camera and one special telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom, hybrid zoom up to 10x, digital zoom up to 50x, and OIS support.
The image produced by this telephoto camera looks good and is quite sharp. Subjects from a distance can be seen more clearly with a telephoto camera on the Mi Note 10 Pro.
1x Zoom Crop
Zoom 2x Crop
5x Zoom Crop
The Portrait mode on the Mi Note 10 Pro successfully creates a delicate border between the subject of the photo and the background. When trying to photograph a cat, the boundary between the cat’s fur and background is processed neatly so that it produces good portrait photos.
The macro camera is able to capture details on the subject of photos with very close distance. However, because the camera resolution is only 2MP, maybe some details on the texture of the photo can not be captured properly.
Photographs by the Mi Note 10 Pro camera at night are good even in Auto mode. There is a separate Night Mode available in the camera application to produce brighter nighttime photos, but I personally prefer night photos with Auto mode for this phone.
Switching to the front camera, with 32MP resolution and using super pixel 4-in-1 technology, the process of producing selfies is very fast and the quality is good. For portrait selfie mode the results are not as smooth as portrait mode with the rear camera.
Of all the advantages, in my opinion there are two main advantages of the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro, which is a reliable camera and a large and durable battery.
Coupled with an economical price when compared to existing flagship class phones, the Mi Note 10 Pro can be an attractive choice for those who are concerned with batteries or cameras on cell phones.
However, the performance of the cell phone is not comparable to the camera, causing photos to be slower. And if you are more interested in playing games than the photos you might be disappointed with what is offered by Mi Note 10 Pro.
